» Spring

Posted on 16th March 2009

Spring is nearly upon us. Today I was finally able to ditch my jumper and spend the whole day without shivering once. Admittedly, I was still wearing a jacket and a long coat, but the shedding of the jumper must be a clear sign that the cold spell is over. I guess the other sign would be the root of that being it’s actually getting warm. Additionally, the ever increasing irritation cause by that allergy commonly known as hayfever.

After my initial unsurprisingly underwhelming prescription last month, the doc upped my daily dosage and it seems to be working better!

Anyway, Tom Cruise is on SMAPxSMAP. It’s interesting to see how much older he looks now compared to his Top Gun, and even M.I days! I also forgot he married Katie Holmes. So still think he’s with Kidman.

Ooo, I also forgot he was in Interview With A Vampire… that was one of those films that I tend to forget about but it’s one I like.

But yeah, not much else to report from this side of the world.

Oh, one last thing. My washing machine broke over the weekend, but it still works (without the drum spinning)… I’m trying to see how much longer it’ll last…. they’re bloody expensive to replace. The most expensive can cost up to a K?

» Question: NTSC vs PAL vs Component

Posted on 25th August 2008

As you may know, I’ve brought my PAL Wii across to the land of the rising sun, meaning I need to invest in a tv to play it. The question is, what do I need to be aware of?

The aim is to get my PAL Wii to work on a Japanese tv, which would I assume run on NTSC-J.

I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to TV/Video encodings so any advice would be grateful.

1. do component cables suffer from NTSC and PAL differences as well? i.e. if i switch from composite to component will it fix this problem?

2. do i just need to check that the tv supports multi-region encoding?

3. is there some other solution?

4. what about HDTV? progressive scan and all that?

Hmmm….

» Day of Rest

Posted on 18th June 2008

Having gone to bed last night feeling totally drained I slept in until 11am this morning. A lie in well deserved? I don’t know.

Anyway, the plan for the day was to relax, recuperate and possibly re-motivate myself to do some project work. With less than a week to go until presentation day and a few more days after that until project submission, today really was the one and only day for catching up with some rest. …and rest I did. The day involved relaxing in front of the tv, watching random tv programs, playing some wii and watching the football…. but between all of that I felt the exhaustion still seeping through.

So, a nap was in order… I ended up sleeping from around 3 til 5 again. I think the 40+ hour day over the weekend combined with all the stresses over the past few weeks must have really taken its toll. It’s funny how you don’t notice these things when you’re in the midst of it.

Tomorrow, the stress piles on again…
